I am Dutch and I have been waiting for 32 years to see our team play in the finals again. I was 12 when we lost against Germany in 1974. We lost against Argentina in 1978. Both losses were heart breakers...
Holland is the perennial under performer. We lost in 94 against Brazil in the quarter finals (Brazil scored twice on offside position). We lost in 98 against Brazil in the semi finals (after penalty shots). We lost in 2006 against Portugal (terrible game with 16 yellow cards and 4 red cards). It's time for us to win it all. We won the European cup in 88, but the world cup... I am glad we are not playing the finals against Germany. If we would lose again against Germany... just kill me. So... if Spain beats us - if they play better - so be it. I just hope we won't lose because of a silly off-side goal or a silly penalty (like in '74). I will be wearing my orange shirt. just hope that that bloody octopus is wrong for a change. |

I'm rooting for the Dutch since I am party Dutch. Unforunately I think Spain will probably win it... They have just looked like the better side as of late and yes, Holland has a history of being underachievers. Great to see them get this far but I think history catches up to them again. Though no team has ever won the World Cup after losing their first game. (Spain)
